BARTESTREE were left ruing missed chances as they were held to 1-1 draw in their season opener against Enville Athletic.

Dave Cadwallader and Dave Beaumont's side who are targetting promotion this season out of the Midlands Football League Division Three got off to the perfect start when Darren Andrews took the ball around the goalkeeper and put his side ahead within the opening 15 minutes.

However, a strong Enville outfit came back into the tie and forced the Bartestree goalkeeper into a smart save before Charlie Duddley netted from 25 yards out to seal a point.

"They were a physical and strong team who played direct which was different to what we're used to as we try and play football," said Bartestree joint manager Cadwallader.

"We should have scored more in the opening 15 minutes but didn't take our chances and then they came back into the game. After they equalised we were back on top but just couldn't score.

"It was the first game of the season which is always difficult as nobody has anything to judge themselves by. All in all I was quite pleased as it is better than last season's loss on the opening day."

Bartestree were back in action last night (Wednesday) against WLV Sport before hosting Birmingham Tigers on Monday.
