LEDBURY TOWN got their Herefordshire Premier Division campaign off to a perfect start thanks to a brace of Curt Williams penalties as they beat 10-men Westfields Reserves 3-1.

Last season's runners-up Westfields handed their hosts an opportunity to go ahead with a 14 minute penalty which was dispatched by set-piece taker Williams.

An ill-judged tackle from Town defender Tom Reid then enabled the visitors to equalise in exactly the same manner six minutes later through Joel Cassidy.

Fields felt harshly done by in the second half when they were reduced to 10-men when Jamie Wilding was shown red by referee Daniel Fish dissent.

The mood in the Westfields camp was further dampened when Mike Arlott put his Ledbury back ahead with a follow-up strike after the goalkeeper saved Joe Bullock’s initial effort.

With 14 minutes left on the clock Fish awarded the hosts another penalty and Williams, winner of Ledbury’s most improved player award of last season, wasted no time in successfully converting it to seal the victory.

Young striker Harri John and top first team goal scorer of last season Charlie Docherty squandered chances to add to Town's tally late on but their side were comfortable victors.

However, Hinton, Kingstone Rovers and Shropshire newcomers Clee Hill United all sit joint top of the league after winning their respective matches by four goals.

Hinton are table-toppers following a 6-2 victory at Tenbury Town with Brandon Jennings netting a brace while further goals came from Brad Matthews, Lewis Craddock and Joel Nicholls.

Marc Avery netted a brace for last season’s Division One winners Kingstone Rovers as they beat Fownhope 5-1 with Matthew Maturi, Ashley Day and Sam Gywnne also scoring.

Malvern Town Reserves scored a late winner three minutes from time as they beat Holme Lacy 3-2.

Ryan Rowlett scored a brace for Holme Lacy to keep them in the tie before the late winner.
