DROITWICH Spa Cricket Club sides got the better of the weather but with conflicting results.

Confusion reigned in the rain at Belbroughton where the hosts were initially declared winners before the calculations reassessed and Spa’s firsts given the Worcestershire League Division Two victory by eight wickets.

Chasing 231, Spa were on 115-2 in the 24th over when heavy rain intervened.

The target of 111 had been achieved thanks to an enterprising 83-run second-wicket partnership between Max Young (52) and Stuart Bryan (40 not out).

Matt Gurr grabbed an early wicket at the start of Belbroughton's innings before their opponents dug in.

While wickets proved hard to come by on a slow surface, Dave Stephens and Adam Keen bowled with control to keep their side on top.

Slow left-armer Stephens produced his best of the season with 2-34 and Keen conceded just 21 runs from eight overs.

Captain Jon Hawk struck a rapid 50 as Spa’s fielding deteriorated, dominating a partnership of 62 for the sixth wicket with Steve Thomas (74no).

James King dominated in the drizzle with 66no as Spa seconds raced to their target of 150 inside 24 overs to beat Pedmore by eight wickets in Division One.

Captain Jon Smith (72) held Pedmore’s innings together as Ajay Kumar picked up three wickets.

Jonny Keen helped Spa thirds pick up a winning draw at Harborne to maintain fourth place in Division Five.

He stroked 14 fours and one six in 66no to give his side the advantage before the weather ended the clash.

Pursuing Harborne’s 228, Keen combined with Simon Holliday (25no) after Spa lost four early wickets before closing on 136-4 from 25 overs.

Under 14s player Danny Mazgajczyk claimed 3-24 from 9.4 overs.

At 66-7 in pursuit of 327, the fourths with three debutants staved off defeat against Harborne but must get the better of Worcester in their final Division Seven fixture of the season on Saturday to decide which of the sides finishes in the bottom two.

The firsts look to close the gap on Bromyard, who are 27 points ahead, when they visit St Peter’s Fields.

The seconds and thirds play two sides chasing promotion in free-scoring Stourport and table-topping Highley respectively.
