HEREFORD Rugby coach Sean Lynn is urging his side to improve their try tally and pick up more away victories as he prepares for his second season in charge in Midlands 1 West.

His side's league campaign commences on September 1 with a trip to Stourbridge Lions and the Wyesiders are looking to improve on their sixth place finish last season.

Pre-season preparations are underway with most of last season's squad remaining with the exceptions of Guido Suez who is trying his luck at a higher level and Callum Brayshaw who is widening his experience playing in Australia.

Callum Duncan has returned to the Wyeside side who also hope that James Gannon is able to rejoin them from America later in the season.

Hereford have made the additions of Damian Miller, Lloyd Gelly and Ollie Farage.

"We need more away points and to improve our tally of bonus points, both try and when necessary losing bonuses," said Lynn.

"Our aim is to provide entertaining football home and away, to pick up bonus points along the way and enjoy the season.

"Pre-season has gone very well, it’s great to see so many colts under-19s coming through. We have been working on our basic skills level and our attacking game. In defence we are working on our line speed and being nice and aggressive."

Hereford gave all 39 available players game time against former South West Premier side Old Centralians in a tough pre-season test last weekend.

The visitors scored six tries while Hereford put together a brace of well worked scores for Tom Starkey and Matt Lawrence.

“This was a lesson learned in the game today against a big physical side who like to throw the ball about, they counter-attacked very well," added Lynn.

Hereford are at home again this weekend when they host WRU League 1 East side Caerleon.

After Saturday's match a presentation of awards for the 2017/18 season was made.

A Club Honours Tie was presented to Callum Duncan for making 50 first team appearances. The Clubman of the Year trophy was awarded to Bob Stewart and Volunteer of the Year to Mark Davies.

The Coaches’ Player of the Year to Matt Hill and Players’ Player of the Year to Gareth Jones.

The Development XV Coaches’ Player of the Year to Jordan Sheehy and Development Players Player of the Year to Lewis Goodridge.
