BOWLERS from Brimfield and Little Hereford Bowls Club are taking part in the National Championships which began at Leamington Spa this week.

The event, which will run until the beginning of September, is set to see around 30,000 players and spectators descend on the town’s Victoria Park where a total of 35 titles will be up for grabs.

Karen Tandler and Barbara Griffiths will be battling it out in the national pairs and they will also compete in the triples with county ladies' president, Lynne Allen.

In the rinks Tandler and Griffiths will play with Marian Wheatley and Jennie Cole.

Herefordshire bowler Ron Perry has qualified for the finals numerous times before so will be no stranger to the famous Warwickshire greens which have staged the nationals for the past five years. He booked his place this time as runner-up in the county’s two wood singles.

Mandy Complin, Jackie Vaughan-Jones and Sandra Pritchard qualified as Herefordshire’s Ladies Triples champions and it will be a busy championship for Pritchard who has qualified in two other categories.

She will compete alongside Fran Hargest as National Ladies Pairs area winners and with Keith Caldicutt as National Mixed Pairs regional winners.
