TENBURY picked up a vital victory against Worcestershire League Division Four strugglers Stourport to ease them further away from the relegation places.

Unbeaten half centuries from opener Chris Giles and all-rounder Aaron Morris steered them over the line with five overs to spare at Penlu.

Tenbury went into this game on the back to two defeats and after winning the toss skipper Robbie Farrar put Stourport in to bat.

He duly had opener Mark Dearlove trapped lbw early on but fellow opener Bevan Neill stuck around on his way to a useful 54 before he was caught by Giles off the bowling of Mark Yarranton.

Others in the top order reached double figures only to lose their wickets with Morris finishing with 2-25 from his ten overs while Yarranton scooped up 2-16 from his four overs.

Stourport skipper Phil Williams showed stubborn resistance though and remained at the crease on 48 not out as the lower order were sent packing thanks to useful spells from Jamie Farrar (3-37) and Scott Sellars (1-33). At the end of their 50 overs the visitors had posted 198-9.

In reply, opener Giles played a near perfect innings, carrying his bat for an unbeaten 74 to lay the foundations for a Tenbury win.

Fellow opener Andy Adams looked intent on sticking around until he was bowled for 19 and Sellars and Jamie Farrar followed in quick succession.

But any thoughts of a batting collapse and a third successive defeat were put to one side as Morris and Giles guided the hosts to a seven-wicket victory, Morris hitting an unbeaten 51 as Tenbury reached 200-3 at the end of the 45th over helped in no small part by 49 extras.

It was a contrasting afternoon for the 2nds who lost their Division Four game at Martley by 196 runs.

Chasing a total of 257-7 the visitors were skittled out for just 61, Johnathan Duce top scoring after taking three Martley wickets.
