LEDBURY Town recently held it's annual presentation evening when awards were handed out to following a successful 2017/18 football season.

Club chairman John Preedy and general manager Phil Preedy paid tribute to the management team of Pat Locke, Dean Rutter, Nick Blakeway and Nat Dunk.

The first team finished a solid mid-table position and just a single point away from a top five placing in this season’s Herefordshire FA County League Premier Division, while the reserves finished ninth in Division One of the same league but only two points behind the three teams placed just above them.

The first team also made it to the final of the Herefordshire FA Charity Bowl cup competition in April.

The reserves reached the semi-final stage of this season’s Ross Cup competition before being beaten 3-1 by St. Johns Howle Hill.

The awards were then presented, with the managers’ awards going to trusty young regular defender Matt Rooke for the firsts and newcomer from Ledbury Swifts this season Sam Branch for the reserves.

The players’ player awards went to new debutant from the Swifts Joe Bullock for the first team and promising youngster Mark Taylor for the reserves, who also went on to win the top goalscorer prize for the New Street second string after finding the net on six occasions this season.

After scoring 28 goals between appearances for the two sides last season, top marksman Charlie Docherty scooped the other top goalscorer prize, while the young player award went to Harri John after the young forward showed a huge increase in confidence playing upfront this season.

Club stalwart Curt Williams earned the most improved player accolade, while the special Spike Beale memorial shield was awarded to reserves player David Butcher for his continuing dedication to the club.

The evening’s final award, the Paul Welch memorial shield which was awarded was presented to club press officer Chris Ponter.
