FORMER Hereford captain Jimmy Oates has signed a professional contract with Exeter City.

With the blessing of Hereford the full-back has been on trial with the League Two side since the beginning of the month.

“Jimmy was the last of the players who were with us right from day one, so it is sad to see that chapter in the clubs history close," said Bulls manager Pete Beadle speaking to the club's official website.

“Whilst we’re sad to lose a player of Jimmy’s ability, everyone who has worked with him here at Edgar Street over the past three seasons are delighted that he has been offered a deal with a Football League club.

“I’m proud that we took Jimmy on right at the start, back in the Midland Football League, it has been a joy to watch him progress with us to a point where he has been able to make the step up to the Football League. I’m sure everyone will join me in wishing Jimmy the very best of luck at Exeter.

“I’d like to thank him for his efforts over the past three seasons, it’s been a tremendous journey and I am pleased to have been through so many great times both on and off the pitch with him.

“I’m proud that we have helped to make his dreams of becoming a professional footballer come true.”

Hereford chairman Ken Kinnersley added: “Jimmy is a genuine, honest and open young man who sets the highest standard for himself.

“He has been a fantastic ambassador and asset to this club, and he has been a major part in the success of the team during the past three seasons. Jimmy has conducted himself in an exemplary manner both on and off the pitch and his personal integrity has been demonstrated again in the open and honest way he has handled his move to Exeter City FC.

“Sadly, the realism of football at this level has now hit hard and I am extremely disappointed and saddened that he is leaving. That said, Hereford FC would never want to stand in his way and are all fully behind him as he follows his dreams to play in the Football League.

“On a personal note and on behalf of all the Hereford FC board and staff at Edgar Street, we wish him every success at Exeter and in his personal and footballing life in the future."
