BUDDING stars are set to showcase their talents as Wellington search for match fitness against Kidderminster Harriers under-23 side on Thursday 7.30pm.

A strong side could start for Kiddy at Wellington as their youngsters look to impress enough to force their way into the first team plans.

Last weekend Gary Stevens' side lost 6-2 at the hands of Stourport Swifts with Gareth Thomas drawing his side level at 1-1 before his tiring side conceded five goals with only Adam Newbury's penalty in response.

Kidderminster's under-23 beat Swifts 3-2 earlier this month following a late goal.

Wellington have had a packed start to pre-season so far with a 4-0 victory against Radnor Valley last Thursday followed by a golf day on Friday and Saturday's game.

"The first few games we have been trying to get our players to have 60 minutes or more under their belts," said Wellington manager Stevens.

"In the Radnor game they worked us really hard and although we won the players appreciated that they had to put a lot of effort into that game. So the Stourport game came around too quickly and we didn't have enough time to recover.

"The first 35 minutes we competed and looked comfortable but they scored two quick goals to take a 3-1 lead into half-time. The second half we looked very tired but we had a very good workout.

"We learnt a lot of stuff from both games a lot of it was good and some stuff we need to work on. I spoke to the Swifts manager who said Kidderminster were very fit and three of the players who played against them played for Kidderminster Harriers first team against Aston Villa.

"So it depends on what team they send down."

Wellington have kept a similar side to last season although prolific striker Brendan Hackett has returned to Hay St Mary's FC.

Kyle Panniers played for Wellington against Stourport Swifts but will remain as captain of Pegasus Juniors for the coming season

"We are still trying to get a few faces, we are good club who look after their players but we don't pay any money," added Stevens.

"We have to be a unit and build a team rather than individuals."
