LYONSHALL teenager Tia Froom took top honours at the annual Herefordshire Sprint Triathlon, beating all of the other female entrants and finishing in 16th place overall.

The 14-year-old, who is a member of the Ludlow Junior Triathlon Club, finished the 400 metre swim, 20 kilometre bike and five kilometre run in one hour, three minutes and six seconds.

The junior international also had the fastest swim time of the day, reaching transition in five minutes and 57 second.

Taking the honours for the men was Dan Geisler from Team Echelon in Pershore.

He finished in 53 minutes and 25 also recording the fastest run time of the day, finishing the five kilometres in 16 minutes and 44 seconds.

Once again, the race took place at Leominster Leisure Centre and Earl Mortimer College with the athletes cycling around the county and running through the town and The Grange park.

Leominster's GB age group international Emily Hinton was second in the women's race in 1:03.50 followed by Oxfordshire's Alice Maclennan in 1:06.37.

Hereford Triathlon Club members Emma Wyatt and Sandy Anning took first place in the veteran (40 plus) and 60 plus categories with Diane Wynne finishing first in the 50 plus category.

Kidderminster's Kevin Lane was second in the men's competition in 55.04 followed by Teme Leisure Tri's Jack Wilson in 55.55.

Hereford Triathlon Club's Iain Darwood was the first veteran with Keith Tannetta from Cardiff Tri taking the honours in the 50 plus category and Nicholas Farnell from Teme Leisure Tri taking first place in the 60 plus.

Teme Leisure Triathlon were the winners of the relay category with Christopher Harrison winning the 70 plus category and Rosie Harris from Bartestree finishing first in the junior category.

For the first time, an aqua bike competition took place alongside the triathlon with Alison Turner and Paul Bouston from Hereford Triathlon Club taking the podium spots.

"The race sold out once again and we were delighted to see so many people taking part in their first multi-sport race," said Hereford Triathlon Club Chairman Mike Parry.

"The sport continues to grow and we're delighted that the event has gained such a good reputation. More than 70 of our members volunteered on the day of the race and we'd like to thank the people of Leominster, Halo Leisure and Earl Mortimer Colllege for their ongoing support."
