YOUNG basketball players from across the county are celebrating a successful season with a host of medals in regional competitions.

ROAR Basketball delivers coaching for boys, girls and young adults in Herefordshire based from Fownhope School, Bishops School and Lucton School.

A trio of girls teams from across the county recently completed in the West Midlands Championships coming away with gold and bronze medals.

Queen Elizabeth High School in Bromyard, Swish Swish from ROAR Basketball and Bishops School qualified for the 3x3 Girls finals with top three finishes in the Hereford qualifier.

In West Bromwich, QE of Bromyard were a little under strength but still came in with fourth place.

Bishops made the journey worthwhile as they came through to take bronze. Meanwhile the final was contested between ROAR’s Swish Swish and Birmingham’s Pink Panthers. Swish Swish continued as the in-form team on the day with a convincing victory.

Following the success, girls from all three sides were selected to represent the West Midlands Region at the National under-14 3x3 Celebration in Manchester.

The Herefordshire teams came joint third in a tie with Leeds as Yorkshire representatives.

Herefordshire's ROAR basketball players also came away as winners of the Gloucester and the Glozball under-12 3x3 basketball tournament.

A trio of players Year five players from Fownhope School formed the team which played against Worcester Wolves, Bristol Flyers and two Gloucester Saxons sides.

Having lost to Saxons, ROAR won the group phase on points scored.

In the play-off phase ROAR beat Saxons 'Blue' and then in the semi-final faced Saxons 'Red', the team that beat them in the group phase.

Showing incredible spirit, ROAR came back from five points down to win by a point in the final minute to set up a final match with the biggest team in the competition, Worcester Wolves.

ROAR had already beaten Worcester earlier in the competition and easily won through a flurry of baskets in the second half.

ROAR Basketball’s Evie Davey recently represented the West Midlands at the National Mini Basketball England Tournament.

Teams from across the country came together in Sheffield to showcase under-11 basketball talent.

Although the West Midlands were well beaten by stronger sides in the competition, Davey who has just turned 10, scored over half of the West Midlands points with a final tally of 14.

Davey became the third ROAR player to represent her region and the youngest yet.
