A HOST of Herefordshire roller derby players will be travel to Philadelphia in America next week to represent Great Britain at the World Cup.

The Hereford Poison Berries players have been selected for the tournament and in recent months have attended training camps across the UK.

Team members travelling from Herefordshire for the tournament include: Marianne and Verity Corrick- Gough (St Marys High School), Rowan Parry (Queen Elizabeth High School, Bromyard), Beth Parry and Izzy Farkas (Hereford Sixth Form), Cordelia and Lawrence Abel (Weobley High School).

The team will play a warm-up game against Canada on July 21 before playing five games in the tournament on July 23.

They will be competing against two USA teams, Canada, Australia and a Europe side.

It’s the first time that GB have sent a team to the tournament and they will be joined by coaches Tristan Dodd, Barb and Rob Corrick.

“Hopefully we will do okay against the European team but we don’t know where we stand against the really well established American sides,” said coach Barb Corrick.

Amelia Corrick- Gough will also be taking part in the tournament as a referee and is Europe’s youngest tournament referee at 16 years old.
