LADY Hawkins School clinched a narrow victory by 10 runs in the first ever Herefordshire Schools Cricket under-13 girls final.

Facing Hereford Cathedral School the format saw 11-a-side pairs cricket with 18 overs per innings.

Hereford Cathedral School scored 263/5 but it was the final pair for Lady Hawkins which proved decisive bringing them to 273/4 and to secured a narrow victory.

Richard Wydenbach, President, spoke briefly and complemented both teams, before Julie Homersley, Marketing and Business Development Manager at Haines Watts, presented the medals to both teams and the Haines Watts Cup to the winning captain.

It is planned to repeat this tournament in 2019, and it is hoped that more teams will take part.

The under-12 boys finals competition saw six schools compete in league matches of eight overs per innings.

Lucton and Kingstone finished top and competed for the David English under-12 Cup.

Kingston batted first and Ollie Langford hit a good 64 with support from Jake Bishop (14) to set a target of 108/8. In reply, Freddie Ammonds hit 19, Zac Powell 26 not out and captain Will Muckalt an impressive 29no to steer Lucton to a good win.

After finishing second in their respective groups Bishops played John Masefield in the David English under-12 Plate Final.

Tom Roberts scored 20 for Bishops, who opened the batting, but with Jack Cambridge taking 2-4 off his three overs along with bowling from Rufus Stevens 1-1 and Dominic Seaborn 2-1 Bishops were restricted to 66/7.

In reply, the attacking A.J.Hammond again put bat to ball with an aggressive 24, and Lucas Recordon hit a fine 15 not out as they reached 67/1 to ensure a good win for John Masefield.

The under-11 Hardball Competition saw A and B team competitions.

In the A final both the Cathedral School and Lucton School finished on 254 runs but it was the Cathedral who took the honours having lost five wickets to Lucton's nine.

Wigmore won the B team competition having beaten both Cathedral B and Lucton B.
