AFTER moving back into the area striker Jamie Molyneux has returned to Westfields and has his eyes set on promotion.

The 23-year-old rejoined Westfields last season after being released by Hereford FC following a successful first spell at Allpay Park.

However, with Fields positioned in mid-table and the striker facing long journeys to training and matches he signed for Highgate United.

The striker, now living in Kingsland, said that a third spell at the club was a ‘no brainer’.

“I’ve always enjoyed my time at Westfields and Sean Edwards has done a lot for me in the past along with everyone else at the club,” said Molyneux.

“I get on well with the new manager Andy Bevan and now I feel I can really focus on my football again without commuting so it was a no brainer for me.

“My first spell at Westfields was great! It was my first season back after surgery on my ankle, I think we had won 14 on the bounce before I signed for Hereford.”

“I’m reminded quite often that people think if I hadn’t of left Westfields would of won the league that year!

“Hereford was too big of an opportunity not to take, and I don’t regret it one bit, the fans at Hereford were great to me and playing in front of them at Edgar Street as well as scoring in front of the Meadow End are memory’s that will stay with me for ever!

“On top of that and most importantly we won the league, and as a player at any level, all you want to do is win things.

“That is my aim for this season, to win the league with Westfields and get them out of this division.

“My second spell at Westfields was a tougher one for me as I was commuting one hour and 15 minutes to training and home games.

“All that aside I had perhaps my best moment in a Westfields shirt, scoring a 95th minute winner in the FA Vase! What a day that was!”

With a host of summer defensive signings Molyneux thinks that Westfields are stronger now than the side that reached the FA Cup first round.

“It’s no secret that Westfields conceded too many sloppy goals last season, he added.

“We know with the threats we've got going forward we will always score goals. But we must keep more clean sheets and the club have showed that’s a priority with the amount of new defenders we have signed!

“The squad is now probably stronger on paper than it was in my first season, so there’s no reason why we can’t get off to a flying start again.

“Me along with all the other boys will be working hard starting on the 29th to make sure we are ready to make that happen come first game of the season!”
