DESPITE taking a much-needed victory last week Brockhampton fell back to the basement of the Birmingham & District Cricket League following a six-wicket defeat at struggling Oswestry.

Following last week's comfortable nine wickets victory over Shifnal the visitors would have been confident after being put into bat and putting on 35 for the first wicket with Worcestershire opener Daryl Mitchell on strike.

However, he was quickly running out of batting partners and Mitchell also lost his wicket for 39 Brockhampton were left on 88-5 before being bowled out for 107 off 34.1 overs.

Brockhampton got off to the best possible start with Jamie McIlroy taking a wicket with the first ball of the innings.

McIlroy continued his form taking Oswestry captain Robert Clarke next and leaving the hosts 10-2.

However, with opener Joe Carrasco hitting an unbeaten half-century the hosts quickly chased down the total and despite Mitchell catching fellow Worcestershire wicket keeper Joe Clarke for 37 Oswestry eventually reached 110-4 off 25.2 overs for victory.

This weekend Brockhampton host fellow strugglers Wellington.
