A YOUNG Herefordshire golfer has returned from his first taste of international competition in Spain.

And although 15-year-old Morgan Radziejowski's debut outing with England under-16 ended with an overall 16.5-7.5 defeat against a more experienced home side, the young Herefordshire GC player showed plenty of promise for the future in his own performance.

"Morgan was selected in a team of four boys and four girls from across the whole country," said dad Steve Radziejowski.

"And they played at the Nacional course in Madrid which has hosted the Spanish Open.

"The competition was played over two days with foursomes in the morning and singles in the afternoon."

Morgan enjoyed mixed fortunes on the course, teaming up with John Richardson of the Royal Mid Surrey club to win both of his foursomes - the duo were the only English pair to win their match on the second day - but suffering two losses in the singles.

"Morgan was paired with the Spanish No 1 Javier Neira on the second day and was three-up after 11 only to lose at the final hole," said Steve, who is now looking ahead to his son's next challenges.

"Morgan has had a really good year, has shown much more consistency and has won a lot of tournaments, including men's competitions.

"There is some serious talent out there and he is only 15 but his next target will be to get into the under-18 squad.

"Because he plays in lots of big competitions all over the country, he is on the radar."
