AN ADAPTABILITY to play in several positions and a desire to win earned Kane Kahaki the Manager's Player of the Year award at Westfields FC 51st Annual Players’ Presentation of the Year Awards Evening.

The defender who has played at centre-half, full-back and defensive midfielder has played in 48 league and cup matches this season for the club.

"He finished off the season strongly and thrived off trying a new position," said Westfields manager Andy Bevan.

"That made it easier for myself having a player who can play at least two positions.

"He doesn't mind where I put him and always gives 100 per cent. He has also got that desire to win which you can't coach."

Held at Burghill Valley Golf Club the awards night saw Carlos Moreira collect the Young Player of the Year, Mark Magee the Golden Boot for leading goalscorer on 20 goals and Craig Jones was voted the Players’ Player of the Year.

The Clubman of the year was Paul Boulton, manager of the HFA Premier Division side who finished runners up following a close battle for the title which went down to the final game.

Defender Sam Plane, who made 52 appearances for Westfields this season, was awarded Fans' Player of the Year following their last league home match.

“Whilst we finished in a comfortable mid-table position people should not lose track of the fact that we played in six FA Cup ties again this year to follow on the tradition of the previous year when we reached the First Round Proper of the FA Cup, having played in eight FA Cup matches," added Bevan.

"The side also reached the fifth round of the FA Vase, losing at home to Hampshire-based side Hamble FC and at times looked as though we could hold on to a top six position but the strength of the league and playing catch-up throughout the season due to weather and cup successes took its toll at the end.”

Chairman John Morgan also praised the under-16s who had won the HFA Youth Cup beating Pegasus in the final.
