MANY crickets are proud of hitting one century in their career but not many can claim to hitting over double century and taking a club record opening stand in the process.

The good pitch at Cleobury Mortimer played into the hands of Kington opener and captain Michael Green but not many saw what was coming next as he hit 221 runs including 16 4s and 19 6s from just 96 balls.

He was joined at the crease by fellow opener Robert Protheroe who contributed 45 from 58 balls as the pairing reached 269 for the first wicket.

The pitch continued to be kind to Kington as Ben Smith hit a half century from 27 balls as his team eventually posted 391-9 taking a 206 runs victory.

However, it wasn't the first time that Green has hit such a score in his cricketing career.

He said: "I did hit 320 off 80 balls while playing in the Trent Valley league a few years ago but it's the first time for Kington in my three years here.

"It was a good pitch to bat on and they put the ball in the wrong areas so I took advantage. I just batted the balls as they came and if it came into my area I tried to hit it away.

"We were clinical in punishing the bad balls and it was nice for the team to post a big score.

"Sometimes you get them days but they come few and far between. I've been playing for Kington for three years since I came to the area but it's my first year as captain.

"We have another tough game next week against Garnons but hopefully we can use this as a stepping stone and push on for the rest of the season."
