HEREFORDSHIRE Cricket Society are welcoming former West Indies bowler Winston Davies to hosts an evening at Hereford Rowing Club next Thursday (March 15).

Davis, born in 1958, got his career off to a sparkling start when he played his first match against an English young team at Port-of-Spain bagging four for 35.

He is also a World Cup runner-up featuring in the 1983 tournament when he picked up a seven for 51 against Australia at Leeds.

He played international cricket for five years and created a lot of impact in the cricket world.

Davis represented Tasmania, Glamorgan and Northamptonshire in the county arena.

He was also featured in a film as well, Because of You, made by Worcestershire County Council’s Social Services department.

After retirement, disaster struck. In 1998, whilst helping to build a Church in St. Vincent, Davis fell from a tree- leaving him a quadriplegic. It was an accident that transformed not only Davis’ life, but the way cricket looks after its players.
