HEREFORD'S Roger Chilman stormed to victory in the historic class of the Woodpecker Stages Rally.

Chilman partnered the experienced Bryan Thomas and finished 14th overall at the event held at Ludlow Racecourse.

"It's been a faultless day apart from intercom problems," said Chilman, who was competing in only his second event of the year.

"Bryan's done a fantastic job especially with hand signals with no intercom not easy in the dust at 100mph."

There was also cause for celebration for other county stars.

Dan Petrie co-drove Leominster's John Perrott to 19th and first in class B11 in the Perrott Building Services Escort RS, while his mother Michelle partnered Martin Wyles to 55th and sixth in class in their Escort RS.

Meanwhile, Dan Brick and his son Toby took another 1400 category win in their Vauxhall Nova.

They pipped Herefordshire crew Jim Lewis and Chris Powell by just six seconds to finish 23rd overall.

Another local competitor was Lucy Wilding, who co-drove Stephen Davies to 57th and seventh in class in their Renault Clio 172.

Of the 140 starters, 101 crews returned to the finish, with the overall winners being Paul Bird and Jamie Edwards in their Ford Focus WRC.
