HEREFORDSHIRE Badminton Association held their first adult bronze tournament on Saturday.

A total of 115 people aged between 16 and 61 travelled from as afield as Newcastle-upon-Tyne to take part in the event at Hereford Academy.

There was good performances from Herefordshire players, particularly from the already successful junior academy, whose star player Brandon Adams will be old enough to enter next year.

Victor Pang, from West Glamorgan, won the men's singles, with Worcestershire's Anne Corbett taking the women's prize.

The men's doubles winners were Oxfordshire pair James Barclay and Jack Alexander Smith, while the top female doubles were Anne Corbett and Evie Hamar, from Worcestershire.

The mixed doubles was won by William Kitching and Phoebe Moore, who were from Warwickshire.

"The success of this event, with support of Mark One, will allow funding to enable the launch of the new adult County squad," said Jessica Hastings, who ran the tournament.

"The county squad begin training this Sunday and play their first series of matches in the autumn.

"There was a high standard of play across the day, unfortunately Herefordshire players did not feature in the finals this time round.

"But with the development plans in place it is only a matter of time before they do."
