HEREFORD Couriers' Tim Clarke was just outside the record time when he won the Shobdon Wood six-mile multi-terrain race in 34 mins 30 secs.

His team-mate Matt James was second in 35.02 and third was Mike Fawcett of Wye Valley in 35.25, while Couriers comfortably won the men's team prize.

Mick Ligema (Ludlow Runners) was first over 50 and broke his own course record by nearly two minutes with 38.16, while Richie Richards (Wye Valley) was first over-40, shaving a second off his previous record best, in 36.30.

Steve Herington (Couriers) was once again first over-55 in 40.13 and Gary Gunner, of host club Croft Ambrey, finished first over-60 in 45.40.

Sue Davies (Presteigne Pacers) was first women home, breaking the over-40 women's record, in 43.02, closely followed by Alison Cooke (Couriers) who achieved a new record for the over-45s in 43.44.

Sally Green (unattached) was third woman home, and awarded the over-35 prize, with a record time of 45.06, followed by Kim Braznell of Halesowen (45.46 ) who had a fine run, knocking nearly eight minutes off the over-50 record.

Mandy Evans of Presteigne Pacers took the over-40 title in 47.25, helping her club to win the women's team prize.
