DILWYN sculler Daniel Middleton, now a member of the West Midlands Performance Squad based at Evesham, achieved double gold medal successes in the English Regional Championships at Nottingham's six-lane Holme Pierrepont course.
Selected the previous month to represent the West Midlands, the 16-year-old Weobley HS pupil sculled in a coxless quad to beat contenders for GB selection Maidenhead and Norwich-Newark.
An hour later Middleton teamed up with old rival Will Tew from Evesham to take the double sculls title from Warrington and Bradford.
Selection for the Junior-16 Great Britain team awaits the winners of a sequence of spring and summer events. Middleton's squad are to date unbeaten, having taken the Schools Head title in March. Five weeks' training now leads to the next hurdle, the National Schools title.
