Hereford 27 pts Luctonians 5 HEREFORD established county bragging rights at under-14 level with a comfortable win in the North Midlands Under-14 Cup final.
The young Wyesiders made a lively start and after forwards Craig Beaumont, Jake Cheshire and Alex Lawrence had driven their opponents back, Matthew Mower finished off some good handling by the Hereford backs to go over for the opening try.
Handling errors by Hereford and continuing pressure by Luctonians prevented any further scoring until just before the interval when fine running by wing Will Prothero allowed prop Scott Robinson to bundle over for a second try. Ollie Cross missed the touchline conversion.
Early in the second period, Hereford stretched their advantage when more good work by Prothero sent Mower over in the corner for his second unconverted try.
But Luctonians picked up their game midway through the half and only failures with a couple of kickable penalties prevented the North Herefordshire club from reducing arrears.
Hereford then began to use their height and weight advantage with second-row Craig Beaumont powering in for a try which was converted by Cross.
Luctonians, however, failed to surrender and a concerted series of drives allowed Sam Holloway to go over for a try.
After wins over Stourbridge by 54-0, Bredon 31-0, Cam Hill 48-0 and Worcester 48-0, these were the first points that Hereford had conceded in the competition.
And it was the Wyesiders who had the last word when good work by Sam Jones, Josh Walker and skipper Tom Griffiths allowed man-of-the-match Barney Woods to cross for the final try.
