Gornal Athletic 1 Bromyard Town 2 BROMYARD gave their West Midlands League Premier Division survival hopes a massive boost with a hard-earned win at highly-rated Gornal.
With a strong wind in their faces, Bromyard's defence worked tirelessly during the first half. Marshalled by the solid Joe Maidment at the heart of their rearguard, they restricted the home team to long shots.
The roles were reversed after the break, with Bromyard then asking questions of the Gornal defence.
They made the crucial breakthrough on the hour when Tom McLean's accurate cross was headed home by youngster Craig Malins.
When Gornal struck back to level 15 minutes from time, It looked as if the points would be shared but then Chris Allen struck a sweet volley from 25 yards to give Bromyard three vital points.
This win lifted them six places in the table to seventh from bottom.
