Bromyard Town 1 Brierley and Hagley 2 BROMYARD missed a golden opportunity of putting themselves well clear of the bottom three in the West Midlands League Premier Division.
Town turned in a lack-lustre performance at home to fellow relegation-threatened opponents, losing the game as a consequence.
Starting the game four points clear of their third-bottom opponents, they saw their lead shrink to a single point instead of growing to seven.
A heavy storm and high winds left constructive football and goalscoring chances at a premium in the goalless first half. Bromyard frittered away two good chances at the start of the second half and were left to rue the consequences.
The visitors went in front with a well-taken goal on the hour. They stretched the lead with 12 minutes to go, with a hotly-disputed goal. The referee over-ruled his assistant, who was signalling offside, and Brierley took advantage when the Bromyard defence hesitated.
Alex Taffe produced a clever lob from the edge of the box to pull a goal back and, with seconds remaining, Kristian Wood came agonisingly close to converting a Matt Beale cross.
