"IT was a really big win for us," admitted Garnons skipper James Debenham after his side saw off leadersGoodrich to go top of Division One of the GB Liners Marches League.

Reigning championsGarnons eased in by 94 runs in what may prove a significant result come the end of the season.

"The games against Goodrich, Luctonians and Crickhowell are always important for us and now we have won two out of two this season," said Debenham.

"We are usually good at getting up for those big games, although it is important to be up for the others as well.

"All of the boys really turned up on Saturday and both sides had pretty much a full complement."

Debenham lost the toss and Garnons were invited to have first strike.

"It was a difficult track to bat on," said Debenham. "It was a bit uneven with a lot of grass on it.

"We were pleased to get to 182."

Although five players passed 20 for Garnons, no-one was able to go on and make a big score with Debenham (21), Alan Jones (28), Sam Bendall (27) and Rob Pritchard (27) all dismissed when set.

"Everyone chipped in and a 20 was worth a 50 on the day," said Debenham. "George Cotterell, who got 21 not out, came in and smashed a few at the end."

When Goodrich replied, it was seamer James Bolton who, for the second week in succession, was the star of the show for Garnons.

The previous week, Bolton had taken 5-19 in a conclusive win against Dales and he repeated the feat at Goodrich.

"Back-to-back five-fors is impressive," said Debenham.

"In his first three overs, Jimmy was a bit expensive but then he found his line and was moving it away.

"He used the pitch very well.

"To take the first five of any order is impressive, but particularly so against Goodrich.

"Rory Jackson is a properly decent player and Andy Brown is always a key wicket when you play Goodrich and Jimmy bowled very well against them."

The skipper added: "He has come back from breaking an arm a couple of times, he is newly married and he and his wife have another baby on the way so perhaps it's given him a bit of extra maturity."

Jackson (22) and Adam McClarty (20) had given Goodrich a solid start with 36 for the first wicket but Bolton snared them both and , when he caught and bowled Brown for just five, Goodrich were on the back foot.

Only Joe Griffiths (14) of the remaining home batsmen reached double figures as Stuart Griffiths (3-17) and Rob Pritchard (2-3) gave Bolton excellent support as the home side were dismissed for 88, their first defeat of the season.

"We are all very happy at Garnons at the moment," said Debenham. "We are very pleased to be at the top of the pile at the moment and we shall be trying our best to keep it that way."
