DAVID Keyte has sold Hereford United Football Club to London businessman Tommy Agombar for £1, claims Hereford United Supporters Trust vice-chairman Martin Watson.

Watson says Hereford United Supporters Trust also tabled an offer to buy the cash-strapped club for £1 but it was rejected by the board of directors.

Outraged fans and players have taken to Twitter to vent their anger after Hereford United failed to pay their football creditors by yesterday’s 5pm deadline set by Conference bosses.

It understood that Keyte, who is still the club chairman, has sold the whole of his shareholding to Agombar, who was officially revealed as United's new owner this week.

Agombar claims he failed to get written assurances from Conference bosses that United would remain in the Conference Premier had he paid off the club's footballing creditors.

Keyte remains the club's official contact for the Conference because the new ownership has not been confirmed by the Football Association.

Some staff at crisis-hit United had been verbally promised their outstanding wages by 3pm yesterday.

However, the players and staff did not receive their payments.

Previously, Keyte pledged to give United’s first-team players a £500 bonus each for helping the club avoid relegation from the Conference. The Hereford Times has seen the memo.

Players and footballing staff had asked for weekly e-mail updates from the club - but those have not been arriving.

Due to off-the-field problems, United are now facing relegation from the Conference structure.

The club’s fate will be decided at a Conference board meeting, starting at 2pm today, at the Celtic Manor in Newport.
