A LEDBURY artist who has survived a cancer scare but lost two brothers to the disease is selling off some of his work for charity.
Derek Durham recently feared he would be diagnosed with cancer after doctors found a lump in his bowel while in hospital for a separate matter.
The 66 year-old, who is also a Ledbury town councillor, was eventually given the all-clear when the lump was diagnosed as an ulcer, but he says the experience was a wake-up call.
"It was a bit of a scare," said Mr Durham.
"I lost my two brothers to cancer. The one was in 1998 when Adrian died aged 30. The other was six years ago when I lost Keith, aged 48."
To raise funds for cancer charity Marie Curie, Mr Durham has decided to sell off about 15 pieces of First World War artwork he's painted.
He says it will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the start of the Great War.
The work is currently on display in the Royal Oak Hotel in The Southend, Ledbury, until August.
