CHILDREN in a Herefordshire village are still facing serious injury, despite moves by the local council to limit the risk they face.
Ewyas Harold Parish Council said some dog owners were still not getting the message to not let their pets foul at the recreation ground, which can be a serious risk to children.
Apart from the unpleasantness of dog mess on shoes, pushchairs, bikes and wheelchairs, dog faeces carry very real health risks.
Toxocariasis is an infection transmitted from animals to humans through contact with parasitic roundworm eggs, usually through pet faeces that have not been cleared from the ground.
People playing sports or sitting on the ground are more likely to be at risk from toxocariasis, which can cause blindness, damage to organs and, in rare cases, septicaemia.

Signs have been put up at the Golden Valley village's recreation ground, highlighting that dogs must be kept on a lead and not allowed to foul.
They say canine parasites can kill or leave children with permanent injuries, and urge people to not "cause tragedy".
Sharing a picture of the sign, the parish council said: "Below is an example of the signs up near the football pitch at the recreation ground.
"The message couldn't be clearer and it is a serious issue for the children and adults using the pitch.
"If you know anyone who hasn't taken the message on board, please do point out the dangers and consequences."
