ALCESTER’S new Post Office in finally opening after weeks of delays.

The original Post Office on 36 High Street closed on April 11 and a newly modernised “main” Post Office was due to open at 30 High Street on April 26.

But the work was delayed as a new structural beam needed to be fitted, which required permission as the shop is in a conservation area.

A mobile service has since visited Alcester every Friday until work is completed, with the new branch now finally set to open on May 21.

The new premises, which were previously empty, underwent a refurbishment to incorporate confectionery, tobacco and news retailer and a new main style Post Office branches.

Bosses say the opening hours will also increase by an extra 17 hours a week, offering more choice of times to visit.

Suzanne Richardson, Post Office Regional Manager, added: "We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs."

The branch will be open to customers from 9am until 5.30pm Monday to Saturday.
