A LONG-serving Stourport officeholder has been elected town Mayor for a third time.

Councillor David Little, has returned to the position for the municipal year following the annual town meeting on Tuesday April 15.

He first held the title in 1989/1990, and has more recently donned the mayoral collar and chain in 2011/2012.

David said he was "pleasantly surprised" to be back in the role.

David worked in council positions since the mid 80s, representing the Lick Hill and Mitton ward of the Wyre Forest District Council.

He was also elected chairman of the Council a year ago.

Originally hailing from Hexham in Northumberland, the public figure made Stourport his adopted home after visiting for his engineering job 55 years ago.

The new Mayor also said that he wants to encourage more visitors to the town by improving mooring facilities: "The town has great history, and the locks and basin are quite an attraction."

"I want to bring people from far and wide and push for boaters to be able to park their boats."

David will be supporting two charities this year including St Richard's Hospice, which cares for those affected by life-limiting illness, and Crohn's and Colitis UK.

Councillor Nicky Martin was also elected at the meeting as the new Deputy Mayor.
