St Andrew’s CE School in Hampton, kicked off the Royal Wedding celebrations for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with an afternoon tea party.

Dressed in red, white and blue, Reception children held ‘weddings’, hung bunting, designed flags, made crowns and enjoyed royal-themed lessons.

As well as learning about traditional Christian weddings, the children have learned about weddings from other cultures and religions.

At the ‘Royal’ tea party, pupils chatted excitedly about the Royal Wedding whilst enjoying themed food and drink fit for ‘princes and princesses’, which was generously donated by the children’s parents and carers.

Andrea Bailey, headteacher, said: “It has been lovely to get into the spirit of celebration sweeping the nation, helping the children to understand history in the making and support their understating of the British Values of respect, tolerance and beliefs of all faiths and none.”
