A CHARITY helping the elderly will be giving a warm welcome to members of the local community with a special energy month throughout September.

Age Concern Herefordshire & Worcestershire’s campaign will show older people how they could save money while conserving energy and still keeping warm over the coming winter months.

Age Concern staff will be at hand to speak to people in person and provide help on a range of key issues important to older people when the temperature begins to drop.

Iain Ledgerwood, insurance and trading manager for Age Concern Herefordshire & Worcestershire, said: “Many older people prefer to speak to someone face-to-face, and for older people who have to make every penny count, the opportunity to find out more about saving energy in the home will prove invaluable.

“We’ll be giving a big, warm welcome to all who take the time to pop in and see us.

“And we’ll also have staff available to talk through our energy package, which is specifically designed to meet the needs of the older person.”

If customers opt to switch to Age Concern Energy Services, developed in conjunction with E.ON, they will receive a welcome pack including a choice of free gift, worth up to £20. Customers can choose from an energy efficient lamp, a carbon monoxide alarm, or two low energy light bulbs.

Also, while stocks last, new customers who sign up in their local Age Concern trading outlet will also receive a free hypothermia thermometer.

As temperatures start to plummet and the heating is turned on for the first time this winter, the charity advises that all boilers and fires are inspected and serviced regularly.

Poorly maintained gas appliances can produce deadly carbon monoxide, which is why new customers signing up to Age Concern Energy can choose a carbon monxide alarm as one of the three free gifts on offer in the welcome pack.

The alarm helps alert people to the presence of carbon monoxide within the home.
