THE first wedding since the lockdown ban was lifted has taken place at Worcester's Guildhall.

Worcester City Council posted on social media a picture of Petra Milecova and Paul Bland who tied the knot in front of just a small group including registrar, witnesses and a photographer.

The wedding took place on Monday morning at the High Street venue, and it is the first to be held their since the ban on weddings was lifted last Saturday.

Worcester City Council tweeted: "It's fantastic to see weddings taking place once again at The Guildhall - bringing with them the promise of happiness, hope and brighter times.

"All our congratulations to Paul and Petra - wishing you every happiness for the future."

After the removal of the ban, that originally began on March 23, weddings or civil partnerships with up to 30 guests are now allowed.

Under the government's guidelines to ensure they are Covid-19 secure it is advised ceremonies are kept as short as possible, social distancing of at least one metre is in place and it is "strongly advised'' that receptions do not take place afterwards.
