WORCESTER City Girls Under 11s had a special guest join them for their end of season awards presentation.

England’s record goalscorer Kelly Smith made a surprise appearance, recording a special message for their online event.

The former Arsenal star congratulated the girls on a successful season and encouraged them to dream big, saying: "I always wanted to be a professional footballer and worked hard on my game every day.

"Juggling the ball or using a wall to work on your passing range and technique, just getting as many touches on the ball as you can as that’s what I did at your age."

The special guest was arranged by the team’s coach, Steve Birmingham, who had met Kelly before through a mutual friend.

He said: "I spoke to Kelly over social media and she was more than happy to send a message for our presentation.

"The girls and the parents loved the fact that such a well-known footballer had taken the time to speak to them but is interested in their progress.

"As a squad, they have improved tremendously well hopefully Kelly's kind words will provide some inspiration as they move up to Under 12s next season.

"They are competitive, reflective and most importantly have an amazing team spirit and all play with a smile on their face."
