A CHARITY in Worcester which offers transport to the elderly have stepped up.

Worcester Wheels Community Transport have been working hard to maintain a service to their regular clients and the wider community.

Worker for the charity, Graham Heath said: “As a community transport organisation, we know that many of our members are elderly and often live alone, with little access to local support.

“Since the commencement of the current crisis, Worcester Wheels Community Transport have been working hard to maintain a service to their regular clients and the wider community.

“Our service is their lifeline in terms of attending hospital appointments, going shopping, and maintaining their social ties.

“We are the Internet for the older generation. In response to the current crisis, many of our team of staff and volunteers have come forward to offer support and assistance, to go shopping, pick up prescriptions, or just to stay in touch.”

In recent days the charity has volunteered the services of the team and vehicles to help the NHS as part of their Good Samaritan Initiative.

They are also actively engaged with the county council’s Happy to Help project, coordinating volunteer resources to support those in need across the wider community.

Worcester’s mayor, councillor Allah Ditta, selected Worcester Wheels as one of his nominated charities.
