Maggs Day Centre in Deansway has announced it has had to shut following government advice despite planning to stay open to help rough sleepers during the pandemic.

Mel Kirk, Maggs chief executive, said: “It is with regret that we have had to shut our doors, this is due to advice we have received from Homeless Link.

“We will continue our phone and outreach services, and are working with the county council and other organisations to ensure rough sleepers get the support they need.

“We weren’t expecting this and it is the last thing we wanted to do, however, we must do what we need to do to keep everyone safe.”

Soup kitchens are still operating a takeaway service in Worcester.
