ATHLETES from across the county are invited to sign up to the 14th Upton Triathlon and Duathlon this summer.

The event, which takes place on July 11, will see hundreds of competitors swim, run or cycle a scenic route through the countryside.

As well as looking to achieve their own personal goals, participants will be helping raise money for Worcestershire charity St Richard’s Hospice – which will receive 10 per cent of entry fees.

Race organiser Jessica Kitt said: “We’re delighted to be able support St Richard’s Hospice this year. It does such amazing work and brings great comfort to seriously ill patients and their families across the county.”

The standard triathlon involves a 1,500-metre swim down the river Severn, followed by a 40km bike ride and finishing with a 10km run or the sprint is half those distances.

Meanwhile, the newly-added duathlon will see competitors take on a 2.5km run, a 21.5km bike ride, and a 5km run.

In addition to the triathlon and duathlon there is a Kids’ Fun Run. There will also be a party in the evening for competitors to celebrate their achievements.

Alison Parkes, fundraiser at St Richard’s Hospice, said: “We are thrilled to have been chosen as the charity to benefit from this fantastic sporting event.

“Every penny raised will help us continue to fund our free care and services to patients and their loved ones across the county.

“We hope everyone has a brilliant day at the Upton Triathlon and Duathlon.”

Race organisers are also appealing for volunteer marshal support on the day.
