THESE are some of the cases that were heard at Worcester Crown Court last week.

Worcester News:

Patrick Niblett, aged 79

A DRUNK ‘nuisance' pensioner wearing one shoe and armed with knives made a throat-slitting gesture in a Worcester charity shop before threatening to stab a police officer.

Patrick Niblett hobbled into Worcester Crown Court using a walking stick after admitting possession of a lock knife and a public order offence. The diminutive 79-year-old, previously of Barbourne Road, Worcester entered the Age UK shop in the city's Mealcheapen Street on September 20 last year.

The judge, who described the offences as 'not just unpleasant' but 'frightening', adjourned the case until March 2 for the preparation of a pre-sentence report. Niblett's only bail condition was to co-operate with probation in the preparation of that report.

Marcus Pedlingham, aged 25

A DRUG dealer wore two pairs of trousers in a botched attempt to hide nearly £2,000 worth of crack cocaine and heroin from police.

Marcus Pedlingham, who appeared over videolink from prison, was jailed at Worcester Crown Court yesterday following the raid which ended the dealing business he set up to fund his own drugs habit.

The 25-year-old admitted possession of crack cocaine and heroin with intent to supply and possession of cannabis after police executed the warrant at Russell Close on January 7 this year.

The judge told him that he had 'graduated' from simple possession and using to 'quite significant dealing' and jailed him for 42 months.

A PAEDOPHILE who raped the same girl four times is behind bars after being found guilty of his crimes.

Wayne Russell was told he is facing a “significant custodial sentence” by Judge Nicholas Cartwright, after he was found guilty of four counts of rape following a five day trial at Worcester Crown Court.

The jury of seven women and five men took three-and-a-half hours to reach their verdicts.

Russell, aged 49, of Lilac Avenue, Tolladine, showed no reaction as the jury foreman announced the verdict.

Following the verdict, Judge Cartwright said he would need to read the victim’s personal statement before sentencing Russell, on March 13.

“You are facing a significant custodial sentence,” the judge told him, before sending him down to be remanded in custody until March 13.

West Mercia Police did not have a custody photo of Russell when asked
