A CITY festival which sees residents light up their community is back for a second year this Saturday, after proving a hit with residents and visitors in 2019.

'Love The Arbo' takes place in the Arboretum area of Worcester from 6pm to 8pm.

Organisers said the event is about "Ordinary people doing something extraordinary by creating an outdoor light gallery in the Arboretum, Worcester. All are welcome to explore this free enchanted trail of light made by the residents.

"2019 saw the first event, and we were overwhelmed by the response; it all looked amazing. There were so many people walking around on this exciting trail, it really brightened up a chilly winter evening."

Alongside the displays in people's front windows, you can find three large installations made by Worcester artist Kate Brookes - one will be floating in the canal itself.

Meanwhile, DFY (Dancefest Youth) will be performing in the car park of the Baptist Church in Sansome Walk at 6.10pm and later during the evening with 'Run Dancer Run', a piece lit by the dancers’ torches as they move.

Karey Parsons, of Dancefest, said: “I’ve lived in the Arboretum for over 20 years and it’s really special to bring the place I live and the place I work together. Dancefest is really proud to be part of such a beautiful community event.”

The Arboretum Residents Association (ARA), who lead the event with support from the Baptist Church, expect even more windows to be lit up this year, and a spokesman said they are excited by the response they have had from residents wanting to get involved.

Claire Durrant, of the ARA, said : “The workshops were well attended with some participants making artworks for elderly residents making it a real community event. Pupils at St George’s CE Primary school have contributed several beautiful artworks, which will be displayed in the church hall.

“We’ve also drawn in talent from outside the area with a non-resident providing a light display in the Pocket Park. All this has been so inspiring we are already looking at plans for 2021 including an ambitious project for the railway arch and gaining financial support from wider sources.”

Visitors can collect a map from the Baptist Church or one of the key installations by the old swimming pool site, then head on into the Arboretum itself.
