A 9-year-old who has been battling a rare cancer is in New York starting specialist treatment.

Anna Drysdale has a rare form of bone cancer called Osteosarcoma. Thanks to the wider community fundraising and a generous donation made directly to MSK hospital in New York, Anna, from Chipping Norton has been able to go to New York to start immunotherapy at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center at the hospital, but further fundraising is needed.

A spokesman from Go Team Anna on Facebook said: "Anna is beginning treatment on Wednesday which is fantastic but it will be very tough on her so it looks like it will take a lot longer than initially thought which will therefore incur extra costs. The family will need a lot of financial support going forward and while we cannot give an exact amount we expect it to be on going for a long time so all the help we can get will be amazing."

Anna was diagnosed in 2017. Since then, Anna has endured over two and a half years of gruelling treatment. She's undergone numerous intensive rounds of chemotherapy each lasting almost a week at a time and had major surgery to remove the large tumour and whole humerus from her left shoulder and arm which was replaced with the fibula bone from her right leg. This resulted in her spending a long time in a wheelchair and needing daily physiotherapy to walk again and be able to move her arm. Due to her bones being weakened and thin from chemotherapy, she's also suffered fractures in her leg and in the new bone graft which took many months to heal.

For a few months last year, Anna had a brief spell in remission in which time she grew stronger and became more mobile.

Sadly, last November Anna's family learned she had another tumour, she underwent more intensive rounds of chemotherapy and six weeks of daily radiotherapy all at University College Hospital in London. She is currently in remission for a second time but her new targeted therapy treatment is for the prevention of recurrence of Osteosarcoma.
