A CHARITY for disabled children in Worcester has received a £2,000 boost from a local shop.

Customers at the Co-operative in Ronkswood have been donating in store to help amass a total £1,988.71 for New Hope Worcester Children’s Charity.

The “tiny charity” supports families who have children with disabilities by providing daily care and activities.

New Hope was founded in 2010 by Jean Wilson, who identified the need for the project within the community when she could not find suitable specialist daytime care for her daughter, Emily.

The children are given the chance to enjoy community facilities of their choice every Saturday throughout the year, and every day of the school holidays.

Whilst the children are out and about having fun, their parents and carers are able to receive a well-earned break.

Mrs Wilson said: “We are very grateful to all the Ronkswood Co-op customers for choosing our children to support.

“It makes a huge difference to us as we are such a tiny charity.

“Our children regularly visit the Co-op as part of their independent living skills – the staff are always very supportive of our children and us as an organisation.

“I hope in the future we can continue to support our children and their families, and support such as the Co-op donation goes a long way to achieving this aspiration.”

The money raised will be used to fund activities for children such as, hydrotherapy sessions in school holidays and weekly trips to fun local venues.
