A TELEVISION production company based in Kidderminster has scooped a royal award for its BBC River Walks programme about Bewdley.

GOSH! TV, which also produced The Great Staycation: Stourport-on-Severn, which aired last month, took home a Royal Television Society award at a star-studded red carpet event at Birmingham's ICC on November 29.

River Walks was presented by former Coronation Street actress Shobna Gulati and was nominated in the Best Factual Entertainment category.

The company's creative director Paul Barnett, who directed the programme, said: "This was our very first RTS nomination, and our first win, so I couldn’t be more over the moon about this amazing achievement, especially when we up against such prestigious competition."

Also nominated in the same category were Great British Menu, Travel Man with Richard Ayoade and Bob Mortimer, and The Thames: Britain's Great River with Tony Robinson.

River Walks was filmed last year, celebrating the picturesque Severn Valley walk along the banks of the River Severn between Bewdley and Bridgnorth.

The programme aired last December on BBC1 and was repeated in August on BB2.

Shobna, who was unable to attend the awards ceremony, said afterwards: "I’m made up to get an award for a programme that was so lovely to make. I really enjoyed working with Paul and the team and hope we can work together again soon.”

GOSH! TV is now working on several new formats for the BBC, Chanel 4 and ITV.

Paul Barnett said: "This is an incredibly exciting time for us. We’ve developed some really fantastic and innovative programme ideas over the last few months, which we’re hoping will lead to further successes."
