THE investigation into the death of a woman in Upton-Upon-Severn is still being treated as a possible murder.

Police investigating the death say there is no further update and that investigations are still ongoing, following the death of the 25 year-old in the town on November 16.

The cause of death is still uncertain, with West Mercia Police saying there was no post-mortem update to give.

Miss Hopkins' body was found near Upton Fire Station just after 8am on November 16.

A 44-year-old man arrested shortly after on suspicion of murder was released on bail on November 18 with detectives having been previously granted extra time to question him.

Headteacher of Hanley Castle High School Lindsey Cooke paid tribute to the former pupil of the school, saying she was "popular and friendly"

She said: "Our hearts go out to her family and friends at this most difficult of times.

"Sarah was a popular and friendly student who is remembered fondly by her teachers and classmates.

"The school stands ready to provide whatever support it can to all those affected in the coming days and weeks."

On the evening of November 15, Miss Hopkins checked in on Facebook at the Drum and Monkey pub in Upton with the comment: "Caz and Gordy cheering me up after a s*** week, I have the best friends.”

The Malvern Gazette understands these were work colleagues Caz Powell and Gordon Adam, with the trio all apparently employed by Permadoor in the nearby Station Road Industrial Estate.

At around 11am on Saturday morning, Amy Hardman posted on Facebook’s Upton Parish Notice Board that her cousin Sarah Hopkins “hasn’t come home last night” and that she was last seen at 11.45pm “outside the Chinese in Upton”.

“She was wearing a: yellow coat, with a band top on and either black or blue jeans with [Doc Martens] on.”

Miss Hardman added: “No one can get hold of her and I was wondering if anyone saw her. She would’ve been walking back to the Rectory Road.”

Her body was found the following morning, and tributes were laid by friends, family and Upton residents.

On November 18, police officers conducted a fingertip search in the area around where her body was found.
