A WORCESTER dance school recently held two special nights to celebrate two decades of teaching city pupils.

Worcester’s Focal Pointe Dance School, based at Comer Gardens, held two anniversary shows over two weekends at Tudor Grange.

The event was a trip down memory lane, as popular performances made a comeback at the events.

The events were organised as the school, which teaches ballet, tap, contemporary, jazz, body conditioning and musical theatre, has reached 20 years.

The St John's dance school has grown from a tiny group of six pupils to an established school with more than 150 children and adults who take part in weekly sessions.

The anniversary shows raised £360 from the raffle for Oscar Saxelby-Lee, the city schoolboy who is fighting against leukaemia.

And ticket sales helped raise £800 for Young Minds, the charity that works to ensure the best possible mental health support for young people.

"The children and adults had a fantastic time, and I am thrilled with their performances," said Focal Pointe Principal Helen Fowles.

"It was wonderful to bring back dances and music from the school's past shows and to welcome back so many past students to perform and help celebrate.

"I am so proud of everyone who took part and helped behind the scenes, and they have collectively helped raise awareness for great charities.

"We are so pleased to be able to donate to such worthy causes.

"We have enjoyed 20 years of dreams, hard work, accomplishments, teamwork, friendships and celebrating dance, and I look forward to the next 20 years.”
