Worcester Street works in Kidderminster nearing completion

The Worcester Street Improvement Scheme has involved the introduction of a new cycle lane, better steps and new seating and bus shelters, as well as opening the formerly-pedestrianised street up to vehicle traffic.

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council said: “The improvement scheme is nearing completion but there is still some work to do before it is fully finished.

"We anticipate there will continue to be some traffic management in place over the next few weeks while the final touches are made and road users and pedestrians get used to the new configuration.”

A letter has been sent to neighbouring properties to say that the scheme will soon be opened to traffic.

This means that the main part of Worcester Street between Prospect Hill/Marlborough Street and Blackwell Street/Coventry Street will be one-way uphill, and there will be no access from Blackwell Street/Coventry Street.

That part of Worcester Street will be accessed via Marlborough Street, which will become two-way.

Traffic coming down Prospect Hill will not be able to make a right turn directly into Worcester Street, but will need to proceed along Marlborough Street, drive around the roundabout, return along Marlborough Street and make a left turn into Worcester Street.

Vehicles will be able to turn left out of the bottom "dead end" section of Worcester Street into Marlborough Street, or go straight ahead into the main part of Worcester Street.

The scheme, which has been funded by Worcestershire County Council, Wyre Forest District Council and GBSLEP, is hoped to encourage regeneration and support economic growth by creating better access into and through Kidderminster town centre for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.
