A WINDOW firm from Malvern helped a family change their lives as part of a TV renovation project.

A team from County Windows and Conservatories Malvern took part in DIY SOS, which is due to be aired tonight.

The team helped the family of 28 year-old Bromsgrove resident Karis Lane, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a baby.

Karis still lives with her mum, Karen, but now her health is deteriorating and caring for Karis is becoming much more difficult.

Jo, who is Karis’ older sister wanted to give her a new home, but the doors and corridors were too narrow for her wheelchair and there was no disability access upstairs.

Because of these difficulties, the renovation of Jo’s home was the only alternative to Karis going into a residential home.

Mitch Luckman, managing director of County Windows, said: “We saw that DIY SOS were looking for local traders to help with the project and sent an email asking if we could help.

“We supplied and installed all new windows and doors as well as doing the fascias and soffits, as well as generally helping with the other jobs that needed doing.”

The company gave its services free of charge, and Mr Luckman paid tribute to his colleagues for their hard work.

He said: “It’s been a huge honour to be involved with such a special project. We met some fantastic people along the way and had lots of fun.

“We’re extremity proud of our team and have to give a huge thank you to all of our manufacturing partners who stepped up without hesitation to support us and the project. We’re so pleased that we were able to use our trade to make a difference for such a lovely family.”

The Big Build - Bromsgrove airs on BBC at 8pm tonight (Wednesday, November 20). The episode had been due to air earlier this month before it was moved for a Panorama special.

Host Nick Knowles said on Twitter: “Think it’s been bumped for more politics -‘cos what we need right now is more politics and less community, right?”
