THE Kidderminster Choral Society will be performing their rendition of a musical masterpiece by an iconic composer who had strong ties with the town.

A performance of Sir Edward Elgar's monumental work, The Dream of Gerontius, will be performed by the society which was once led by the composer himself, at Kidderminster Town Hall on Saturday, November 30.

The choral society will perform the piece alongside the Elgar Sinfonia orchestra of over 50 players. Wolverhampton Chamber Choir has also been invited to join the choral society to join the singing.

Sir Edward Elgar was a past president of the Kidderminster Choral Society, and the modern day group say they are "especially proud" to be performing his work.

The performance will feature talented professionals for the solo roles, including Diana Moore, Quentin Hayes and James Oxley, as well as Marcus Huxley playing the town hall Organ.

Geoff Weaver, musical director for Kidderminster Choral Society and Conductor for this performance said: “It is particularly appropriate that Kidderminster Choral Society should be performing this work in the year in which Cardinal John Henry Newman has been named a saint by Pope Francis.

"Newman, a renowned Anglican academic and preacher, converted to the Catholic faith in 1845, and wrote the poem The Dream of Gerontius in 1865.”

The society hopes the performance will reach a high standard and delight music enthusiasts.
