A GOLDEN lion statue in Worcester that was damaged in the recent bad weather will be repaired.

Staff at the Costa branch in Worcester, formerly the Golden Lion pub, confirmed that the lion was blown off the side of the building and that is 'disintegrated' after the fall.

They also said Costa was in discussions with Worcester City Council about how best to get it repaired and back on the building.

A city council spokesman said: "We are currently working with those responsible for the maintenance of the Costa Coffee premises (formerly the Golden Lion pub) in High Street and advising them on what is required to restore the Golden Lion figure on the frontage."

It is believed that the Golden Lion, located in the high street opposite the Guildhall, existed as a pub from at least the 16th Century.
